Ernie was born in Beverly Hills and began his working life at the age of five as a child actor under contract to the Warner Bros. Studios. On loan to the Hal Roach Studios, he appeared in over a half-dozen of the later episodes of the Little Rascals (Our Gang Comedies) from 1937 to 1941, and over twenty other films for Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, etc., before the Second World War.
He graduated with honors (Phi Kappa Phi) from Cal State LA, and, with his wife Patty, is also an honorary alumnus of the University of Southern California. He is a former weekly columnist for the Los Angeles Daily News and a creative consultant for the Los Angeles Times. He has over a half-century experience as a graphic designer, illustrator, cartoonist, writer, and recently as a lecturer and professional speaker. He has authored 10 books and is president of their family business, Casa Graphics, Inc.full-service producer of books for self-publishers and publisher of newsletters for components of California Dental Association, periodontology and the prestigious American College of Dentistry, among others.
Ernie is a past president of his chapter of Toastmasters International. As a calligrapher, he has created award certificates for the Grammy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, the National Conference of Community and Justice Humanitarian Awards, among others. He has taught courses in calligraphy at Disney Studios, the Glendale Unified School District and at a number of seminars.
Patty was born in Glendale, CA and graduated as an education, speech and drama major from Occidental College. She received a B.A. and was a recipient of the Marion Schumacher Award (outstanding drama student), elected member of Mortar Board National Honor Society, president of Occidental Players Drama Society, as well as princess of the freshman class while at Glendale College. She taught elementary school for 15 years, becoming a master teacher for Los Angeles City Schools (at Eagle Rock Elementary School) before she and Ernie became business partners in 1976.
Married after college in 1960, Ernie and Patty started a family (two girls) and a family business, Casa Graphics, Inc. They now author nonfiction books, help authors to self-publish and are guest lecturers at USC, UCLA, and Woodbury University speaking on marketing, public relations and business ethics, and on their experiences working together building a small business.
Ernie and Patty are currently the president and vice president, respectively, of the Book Publicists of Southern California, a 1,000-member group dedicated to the promotion of best-selling books, established in 1976.
